It was 1937 when Joe Ukrop opened the first Ukrop's store in a spot the size of a two-car garage. He guided his business by the Golden Rule, treating customers as he wanted to be treated and selling only the quality foods he'd eat himself.

More than 70 years later, we govern our 28 stores according to Joe's original beliefs. Stop into one of our stores. You'll find aisles packed with premium meats, fresh locally grown produce, delicious baked goods and freshly prepared foods. You'll also find caring associates who'll always take you to find the item you're looking for and carry your groceries to your car (a small "thank you" is the only tip they'll accept).

Joe Ukrop was known for closing his stores in the summer so his associates could help farmers in the fields. Today, we give 10 percent of our pre-tax profits back to the communities we serve. We are dedicated to making the communities where our stores are located better places in which to live and work.
